Chris

100% Grass-fed Tallow Cream for facial and skin care
With organic extra virgin olive oil (from Greece), which gives it its smooth texture, application is effortless. A splash of raw honey (from the flower meadows of Westland in the Netherlands) is added for antibacterial purposes . Sourced 100% from grass-fed, SKAL-certified cows that graze freely in Dutch nature parks .
Why is olive oil and honey added?
The inclusion of olive oil is crucial for achieving the desired consistency in our cream. Without it, the tallow would solidify into a hard balm instead of maintaining the soft and creamy texture we aim for. A small amount of olive oil works wonders, as it ensures a high tallow content and preserves the nourishing effect of the cream.
Additionally, we use raw honey because of its remarkable antibacterial properties. This not only enhances the overall effectiveness of the cream but also adds a natural element that aligns with our commitment to quality and holistic skincare.
Please note that this product comes from animals. However, when applied to the skin, the cream absorbs quickly and the scent fades rapidly.
Is beef tallow good for the skin?
Yes, beef tallow can be very good for the skin, especially due to its natural properties and nutrient composition. Here are some reasons why beef tallow is valued as a skincare product:
Similarity to human skin: Beef tallow contains fatty acids that are very similar to the natural lipids of human skin. This allows it to penetrate well into the skin and helps strengthen the natural skin barrier, retain moisture, and protect against dryness.
Nutrient-rich: Beef tallow contains many vitamins that are useful for skincare:
- Vitamin A: Supports cell renewal and promotes smooth and healthy skin.
- Vitamin D: Can help regenerate the skin and improve the overall appearance of the skin.
- Vitamin E: Acts as an antioxidant and protects the skin from free radicals that can lead to premature skin aging.
- Vitamin K: Promotes healing and can assist in the treatment of skin irritations and scars.
- Moisturizing: Tallow is an excellent moisturizer. It helps care for dry, cracked skin and provides deep hydration without clogging the pores.
- Soothing for skin issues: People with skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, or very dry skin can benefit from the soothing effects of beef tallow. Its rich texture and natural fatty acids help reduce inflammation and calm irritated skin.
- Free from synthetic chemicals: Since tallow is a natural ingredient, it is often found in skincare products that avoid synthetic ingredients. It is especially appreciated by those seeking natural and unprocessed skincare alternatives.
Frequent Questions-FAQ
Our tallow cream remains good for up to 12 months after opening. Tallow cream has a relatively long shelf life because it contains no water components, minimizing the risk of microbial growth (such as bacteria or mold).
Here are some factors that can influence the shelf life of tallow cream:
- Quality of the tallow: High-quality, well-purified, and properly rendered tallow lasts longer because it contains fewer impurities that could cause it to spoil faster.
- Use of antioxidants: Ingredients like vitamin E can act as natural preservatives and slow down fat oxidation, thus extending shelf life.
- Storage: Store in a cool, dark place! The cream should be stored in a cool, dark location to prevent oxidation and rancidity of the fats. Ideally, it should be kept at room temperature or in the refrigerator. Airtight containers. The cream should be stored in an airtight container to protect it from moisture and oxygen, as oxygen can oxidize the fat and cause rancidity.
- Honey and essential oils: can extend shelf life by inhibiting microbial growth or slowing oxidation. If the cream also contains beeswax, this can further help extend shelf life, as beeswax has protective and preserving properties.
- Smell test: Even after the expected shelf life has passed, tallow cream can often still be used as long as it does not smell rancid or show unusual texture or color.
Beef tallow has a similar fatty acid composition to the natural oils produced by human skin, which is why it is generally considered skin-compatible. However, whether tallow cream can clog pores depends on various factors, including skin type and the specific composition of the cream.
Here are some aspects to consider:
- Non-comedogenic for many skin types: Tallow contains fatty acids similar to human sebum, such as oleic acid and stearic acid, making it well tolerated by most people. Since it closely resembles the natural skin barrier, tallow is easily absorbed by the skin and supports it without frequently clogging pores.
- Good for dry or sensitive skin: People with dry, sensitive, or mature skin often find tallow helpful because it is rich and penetrates deeply into the skin without leaving a greasy layer. The likelihood of it clogging pores in these skin types is relatively low.
- Risk factor for oily or acne-prone skin: Individuals with oily or acne-prone skin may be more sensitive to tallow. In oily skin, additional fats in products can sometimes lead to clogged pores. Although tallow is not considered highly comedogenic, people with oily or acne-prone skin should try it cautiously to see how their skin reacts.
- Composition of the cream: Additional ingredients such as oils (e.g., coconut oil) can increase the risk of clogged pores, as some oils are more comedogenic than others. Coconut oil, for example, has a higher comedogenic potential and can cause breakouts in sensitive skin. Our tallows are made without coconut oil.
Yes, tallow cream can be suitable for children and babies, as it is made from natural ingredients that are often well tolerated. Tallow comes from animal fat and is rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K, which are nourishing for the skin. Our creams contain no synthetic additives, making them a good choice for sensitive skin.
However, it is important to ensure that the cream does not contain added fragrances or essential oils, which could potentially irritate a baby's skin. For this reason, we recommend using the Pure & Unscented version. It is always advisable to perform a patch test before use on babies or small children or to consult a pediatrician to ensure there are no individual sensitivities.

What is Tallow?
Tallow cream is a skincare cream made from tallow (animal fat, usually from cattle). We use exclusively beef tallow from grass-fed cattle. Our cream is particularly rich and moisturizing, as tallow is compositionally similar to the fats that naturally occur in human skin. For this reason, tallow cream is often used in natural skincare, especially by people who do not want synthetic ingredients .
Here are some typical properties and benefits of tallow cream:
- Skin compatibility: Since tallow resembles the skin structure, it can be well absorbed by the skin and helps to strengthen the natural barrier.
- Moisturizing: It helps to deeply hydrate the skin and soothe dry areas.
- Nutrient-rich: Tallow contains vitamins such as A, D, E, and K, which can contribute to the regeneration and care of the skin.
- Soothing: It is often used to soothe irritated or sensitive skin and can be helpful for skin issues such as eczema or psoriasis.
- Natural: Tallow creams are often minimalist in their composition, making them a popular choice for people who prefer natural or minimally processed products.
How is tallow obtained?
Tallow cream is made by combining beef tallow as the main ingredient with other nourishing ingredients such as oils, essential oils, or beeswax. The process of making tallow cream is relatively simple and usually occurs in small batches, as it is often used in natural and handmade skincare.
Here is the basic process for making tallow cream:
- Extraction of beef tallow: First, pure beef tallow (Tallow) must be produced by rendering fat tissue. This tallow should be cleaned and solid at room temperature before being used to make the cream.
- Melting the tallow: The solid tallow is slowly melted in a pot or a water bath over low heat to return it to liquid form. This step should be carried out gently to ensure that the tallow does not burn.
- Addition of nourishing oils: Once the tallow is liquid, other nourishing oils are added. Commonly used oils include olive oil, coconut oil, or jojoba oil, which enhance the moisturizing properties and give the cream a lighter texture.
- Addition of essential oils (optional): Essential oils can be added as desired to give the cream a pleasant scent and provide additional skin care benefits. Popular essential oils for tallow cream include lavender, chamomile, or rosemary, depending on the desired effect. The amount of essential oils should be small, about 10-20 drops per 100 ml of cream.
